Arrowleaf exists to strengthen Southern Illinois by supporting people in our region as they weather the storms that everyone faces throughout their lives.

Who does Arrowleaf work with?

Arrowleaf works to build and maintain well-being for individuals of all ages across Southern Illinois, regardless of their life situation.

Everyone needs support to reach their potential, and the types of support we need changes throughout our lives. That’s why Arrowleaf works with Southern Illinoisans in a diverse array of areas, throughout all stages of life.

How does Arrowleaf address the variety of common human needs that exist in the region?

With more than 25 programs, and thanks to the work of people like you, we are able to support Southern Illinoisans through a wide variety of challenges that can come up at different points in life.

We recognize that the challenges that exist in our communities, and the resources needed to build well-being, are always evolving. I’ve heard Arrowleaf has high turnover and I’m worried. What will that mean for my employment?

It’s fair to worry about turnover, especially in a field like human services, where stress and burnout can be high. These challenges are in no way specific to Arrowleaf but rather represent a sector-wide problem that we’re working hard to address at our own organization. We do everything we can to create a positive work environment that our team members want to remain a part of, including providing highly competitive benefits and significant opportunities for advancement, hosting staff appreciation days and offering hands-on guidance and support to our team members at all phases of their careers. We also advocate on a local and state level for sector-wide changes that will help human services employees thrive.

Our work is focused on building well-being, and that begins with our staff, so you can rest assured that we’ll do all we can to make Arrowleaf a place you want to invest in building your career long-term. In fact, more than 10% of our current employees worked for Arrowleaf earlier in their careers, left for another opportunity, and then returned.

Will I experience too much stress working at Arrowleaf?

There is no question that some of the work we do at Arrowleaf can be stressful. This is true of any human services organization that provides essential services like crisis support and help for those struggling with conditions like depression and anxiety. But our work is also important, and we are dedicated to helping our team members cope with their stress so they can continue to help others.

Our employee assistance and appreciation programs, transparent culture and stress management resources are effective at helping team members in all roles combat stress so they can continue to thrive within and outside of work.

Will I be able to move up in my career at Arrowleaf?

You do not need to worry about a lack of advancement opportunities when you come to work at Arrowleaf. The needs that exist in our community are growing, and therefore, so are our organization and our team members. There are countless examples of employees who have continued to progress through their careers at Arrowleaf, from our CEO, who began her career here as a therapist 16 years ago, to our Chief Program Officer, who started her time at Arrowleaf as a counselor. In fact, as of fiscal year 2023, 63% of our management team members have come from internal promotions.
